knowledge

There are at least five possible sources of knowledge.

1 all sources of authority such as tv,radio, newspapers, parents, teachers and friends etc.

          2 reason,the power of thought

          3 empiricism,our five senses

4 intuition, the power of attaining direct knowledge without rational thought

        5 tacit knowledge
Explicit knowledge is knowing "that"-all the facts you know.  Tacit knowledge is knowing how.
There is no explicit knowledge on how to console a distressed friend or how to end a romantic relationship or how to resolve a moral disagreement. This involves tacit knowledge.

  1. So is it true then that there is no such thing as knowledge that isn't coming from a source that has already been taught? Like if we have never seen what the color yaguloo looks like, then we can't have knowledge of it? peace

  2. knowledge from intuition and or tacit knowledge is somewhat of a mystery and we are just on the edge of researching mind. what explicitly is mind and where is it? This is what we will explore in these days ahead. owm

  3. Tacit is an implicit, unspoken, yet understood way of knowing. Research suggests that men and women evolve in their epistemology, or way of knowing, differently. Buddhism speaks of knowing through the heart/mind in Boddhicitta. This is a layer of knowledge Emotional Intelligence also offers. We've been taught to separate out head from our heart for so long, especially in the West that this way of knowing seems mysterious and alien. It is a welcome discussion to begin to explore how we come to know. Thanks, John!
